The importance of using Reverse Osmosis (RO) water for use in an aquarium cannot be over emphasised. What is Reverse Osmosis or RO? Reverse osmosis water is essentially free from chlorine, nitrates, phosphates and heavy metals and is an ideal base for making up salt solutions or for freshwater aquariums or replacement of evaporated loss. Tap water is generally full of these pollutants and the effect on your aquarium can be quite severe depending on how bad the water is in your particular area. D-D have a comprehensive range of RO units to suit every application and depth of pocket. Currently for the hobbyist there are two main model ranges which are the Standard Models and the Compact Models. Both models house the same high quality TFC membrane and housing however the standard units have 10″ replaceable sediment and carbon filters whereas the compact unit has smaller disposable ones. When choosing the size of RO unit remember that the output flow will vary greatly with temperature and mains pressure. Even though you may only want 25 Ltrs of RO water per week for top up the larger the RO unit the faster you will be able to produce the water.
